I Have a Dream: No More Stereotypes
I have a dream that one day I won’t go online to see another
tear wrenching story about a lovable family Pitbull being killed because it’s
in the wrong place at the wrong time. A few days ago I read the saddest story
about this young girl falling off her bike and her best friend, a Pitbull,
licked her knee to comfort the crying girl. A bystander thought the dog
attacked the girl, and stabbed the Pitbull four times in the chest and neck
area. The Pitbull didn’t make it. Stories like this make it hard to have faith
in humanity.
Ireland has a ban on dogs looking or resembling Pitbulls. If
your dog is reported for looking like a Pitbull, then your dog gets taken for
investigation. The dog is almost always euthanized, even if the dog isn’t a “Pitbull”
breed. Denmark, Spain, Italy, France, Romania, Norway, Switzerland, Israel and
many others all have bans on sub breeds of Pitbulls, or any breed looking
remotely close to the breed. The bans are all strictly based on the typical
stereotype of this breed.
I have a dream that someday societies around the world won’t
fall for stereotypes. They’ll see and experience to believe, and not just on
word of mouth. Informing the public is one of my many goals. Pitbull’s aren’t terrifying
dogs, they just want to love and be loved. They want everything any other dog
would want.
Remember the saying “dogs and cats will never be friends?”
It’s particularly aimed at pitbulls and like breeds. However, a story about a
Pitbull named Jack. He lived with a feline named Kitty, and one-day Kitty was
being attacked by two coyotes. She was being bit and shaken by the neck and
tail. Jack saw this and ran after the two coyotes making them drop Kitty, who
recovered with no lasting effects. Jack and Kitty are great fur friends who
even occasionally cuddle together while they sleep. Not everything negative you read is true.
Do you hate when someone judges you for how you look? Do you hate when someone excludes you for rumors? Do you believe in equal rights for everyone?
I've joined the fight, will you?
